Hi, I’m Kyle!
I love music
Playing music
Writing music
Tinkering with instruments
Teaching others how to play music
And I want to share my passion with everyone!
I am a Singer, Guitarist, Bassist, Drummer, Instrument Technician, Teacher, and Show Director.
I started playing guitar at 11 years old when my dad got me a miniature acoustic guitar. Unfortunately, the acoustic guitar hurt my fingers, so I stopped playing until I got an electric guitar a few years later. Back then I was really into Nu Metal, and that’s all I wanted to learn how to play. Then, in 2008, I discovered a program called School of Rock. It was there that I really fell in love with all kinds of music. I was pulled out of my metalhead phase and dropped into a time of musical discovery. I learned songs by Aerosmith, The Rolling Stones, The Who, The Buggles, Prince, Metallica, Iron Maiden, Bad Company, Queen, Led Zeppelin, Nirvana, Rush, Foo Fighters, Wolfmother, and so many other artists. I started School of Rock as a guitar player, but I graduated in 2010 as a guitarist, bassist, drummer, singer, instrument technician, stage technician, music director, and all-around performer.
After high school and School of Rock I went straight to work. For the next 10 years I worked in the service industry while writing music with different bands. First was The Badrats, a group of friends that kept playing together for a couple years after School of Rock. Then I joined Grand Revival after another fellow SoR student, Nathan Wilkinson, needed someone to take over for their college bound lead singer. Then I got a call from a family friend, Kirk Knoll. He wanted to hook me up with his buddy Marc Riffle, a power pop songwriter and guitarist starting a new project called Tommy Models. I spent many years bringing his vocal vision to life in the American University recording studio. Then I met Jory Luchsinger at an open mic after a studio session with Tommy Models. He played a mean guitar, and he was intrigued by my vocal and bass guitar chops. He invited me out to jam with a drummer he knew, Henry Manadjian, and Unsullied was born. Unsullied played gigs all over the DMV area, we wrote and recorded an EP, multiple singles, and started an album that was unfortunately never finished.
Fast forward to now. I am living in Des Moines, Iowa with my wife, daughter, cat, and dog. I am a multi-instrument instructor and show director at the School of Rock in West Des Moines, a singer and bass player in multiple cover bands, a solo acoustic performing artist, and a guitar/bass guitar technician. I would love to help you with any aspect of your musical journey, please reach out!
